Fabric sets the starting point for comfort, silhouette and perceived quality. Before requesting samples, define where the cap will be worn, how it will be decorated and what price range the collection needs to meet.
Start with the end use
Brushed cotton works well for relaxed lifestyle caps, while polyester and nylon are practical for sports, travel and promotional programs that need fast drying performance. A structured front panel may also need a backing fabric that supports embroidery cleanly.
Match fabric to decoration
Dense embroidery benefits from stable woven fabrics. Lightweight fabrics can still work, but the artwork should be simplified and reinforced during sampling. For printed logos, ask your supplier to test color adhesion and wash resistance on the selected base.
Approve fabric with a production sample
Request swatches and a pre-production sample under normal lighting. Check hand feel, color consistency, shrinkage and how the material looks after shaping. A clear approval note gives both your team and the factory one practical reference before bulk production.
